Encouraging girls to explore STEM careers
Women are still under-represented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). According to the European Commission, while they represent 51% of the EU population, only one in three are STEM graduates, and one in five are information and communication technology (ICT) specialists. This gap can be explained by persistent stereotypes and a lack of inspiring role models for girls.
A project to open up the possibilities
In light of this, IMS is launching the ‘Girls: Deploy Your Talents!’ project to raise awareness and encourage secondary school girls to explore STEM careers. The aim is twofold: to deconstruct the gender bias that hinders their orientation and to strengthen the connection between schools, young people and companies in Luxembourg.
Concrete actions to make a real impact
- Raising awareness: organising educational evenings, producing podcasts and co-creating an exhibition with secondary school students to question stereotypes and promote female role models.
- Immersion and encounters: setting up an annual company immersion day to enable young girls to discover these professions from the inside.
- Company-school cooperation: strengthening dialogue between companies, the education sector and young people to create a more inclusive and encouraging environment through two major conferences
A more inclusive future starts today
By helping girls gain confidence and take ownership of STEM careers, ‘Girls: Deploy Your Talents!’ is helping to create a new generation of committed, inclusive and innovative professionals. Let's transform opportunities and pave the way for a more equal and prosperous world.
