For the third consecutive year, IMS Luxembourg organised a clothing collection in partnership with Spëndchen asbl and Lëtz’Refashion, members of HUT – Hëllef Um Terrain.
Growing impact
The 2025 campaign enabled the collection of 2.9 tonnes of clothing, thanks to the mobilisation of 33 participating organisations, compared to 25 the previous year. Two sorting days were then organised jointly by the teams of IMS, Spëndchen asbl and Lëtz’Refashion.
Beyond the volumes collected, one indicator stands out: 72% of participating organisations chose to go beyond a simple collection, by implementing internal awareness-raising actions.
Raising awareness to change practices
In partnership with Lëtz’Refashion by HUT – Hëllef Um Terrain, IMS supported organisations through awareness-raising tools and the organisation of complementary actions such as clothing swaps, repair cafés and discussion sessions on textile consumption.
This approach is based on a shared conviction: donating only makes sense when it is part of a responsible approach — with clean clothes in good condition, local reuse responding to real needs, and without fuelling a cycle of overconsumption.
It is worth recalling that the textile industry has a significant environmental and social impact. It is responsible for 2 to 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions and generates millions of tonnes of textile waste every year. In Europe, 80% of discarded textiles are landfilled or incinerated, although more than half could still be worn. In Luxembourg, the equivalent of 95 T-shirts is thrown away every minute.
