EcoLabel Luxembourg is the national reference label certifying environmentally friendly accommodation establishments in Luxembourg since 1999. It is aimed at hotels, campsites, youth hostels, holiday cottages and group accommodations that commit to complying with strict environmental criteria. Through this approach, establishments can significantly reduce their impact on the environment and the climate, while achieving savings in energy and water consumption as well as in waste generation.
The label enhances Luxembourg’s attractiveness as a tourist destination and supports the development of sustainable tourism in the country. For visitors, it serves as a reliable guide and helps them make informed choices when selecting their accommodation.
On behalf of the Ministry of the Economy – General Directorate for Tourism, IMS Luxembourg ensures the overall coordination of the label and provides personalised, free-of-charge support to establishments interested in a certification.
Since the early 2000s, the EU Ecolabel has also been certifying environmentally friendly tourist accommodation. It enables guests across all European Union Member States to stay in establishments that meet equivalent environmental standards. In this context, IMS Luxembourg is mandated by the Ministry of the Environment to support establishments in the labelling process and to monitor their applications.
