As part of the ‘Rethink Your Clothes’ campaign commissioned by the Luxembourg Cooperation, the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, an associate member of IMS, is delighted to invite you to a unique conference entitled ‘Behind the scenes in fashion: exile and human exploitation on a global scale’. Organised in partnership with the Commission Consultative des Droits de l'Homme and ASTI, the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg wishes to highlight the links between human exploitation, migration and the fashion industry.

With the exceptional presence of:

  • Abdoul: Ivorian tailor, victim of human trafficking

  • Audrey Millet: Doctor of History and Letters, author and specialist in fashion ecosystems, social issues and migration.

In her latest book, ‘L'Odyssée d'Abdoul, Enquête sur le crime organisé’ (published in August 2024 by Éditions Les Pérégrines), Audrey Millet deciphers the mechanisms of human trafficking between sub-Saharan Africa and Italy, recounting the story of an Ivorian fashion designer, Abdoul, who confided in her after arriving in Prato, a workshop town in the grip of mafias.

Programme:

  • Welcome by Jean-Louis Zeien, President of the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg.

  • Deciphering ‘organised crime’ and personal accounts by Audrey Millet and Abdoul.

  • The situation of illegal immigrants in Luxembourg, an ASTI analysis by Sérgio Ferreira, Political Director.
