168 kilos of waste were collected this Saturday, 20 September, by around fifty people. They responded to the call of "World Cleanup Day," a global cleanup day officially recognised by the UN.

This event was organised under the aegis of various organisations, associated members of IMS:

  • Clean Something For Nothing (CSFN)
  • Pick It Up Luxembourg
  • Youngcaritas

As well as other organisations:

  • EU Climate Pact Luxembourg
  • Sea Shepherd Luxembourg
  • SINGA Luxembourg
  • Luxembourg Air Rescue
  • Youngcaritas

In an hour and a half, they managed to collect 168 kilos of waste from nature.

"World Cleanup Day" has been celebrated worldwide for several years. Since 2018, over the course of six "Cleanup" campaigns, nearly 544,000 tonnes of waste have been collected in 211 countries by 91 million participants. In the 2023 campaign alone, more than 19 million people came together to collect nearly 220,000 tonnes of waste.

César González Fernández, co-founder of Clean Something For Nothing (CSFN), a Luxembourg-based mobile app dedicated to waste collection, calls for year-round commitment from everyone.

More than 730,000 kilos of collected waste have already been recorded on this app, facilitating over 5,000 cleanup actions across 71 countries.
