This September 29th is International FoodWaste Day, an opportunity for Sodexo to remind you of its actions.
Sodexo Luxembourg is committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 34% by 2025, and reducing food waste is one of the ways we can achieve this goal.
Our action to reduce food waste is part of a sustainable development approach to avoid generating organic waste, but also an ethical approach: we consider that it is not acceptable to throw away food that is still consumable out of respect for nature, respect for those who do not have enough to eat every day, out of respect for the work of the producer, and out of respect for our cooks who prepare the products. We serve more than 35,000 meals daily and are convinced we have a role to play in raising awareness of food waste in Luxembourg.
At Sodexo, reducing food waste is addressed in 2 steps:
- With the Leanpath connected scales, at the time of production and the return of trays at the end of the meal
- With the Phenix application
With Phenix, we offer consumers the surplus and unsold products of the day at a reduced price (-50%) at the end of the service. Available products are published in the app, and consumers are notified when the anti-gaspi baskets are put online, which they can reserve and pay for online.
Phased in September 2021, the app is now used in 7 Sodexo outlets in Luxembourg, and others are being rolled out. Over the past year, 1,125 baskets have already been sold, representing 807 kg of food that has not been thrown away. This means more than 2.5 tons of CO2 production is avoided.
A very satisfactory result which encourages us to continue our efforts!
