François Gemenne is a Belgian expert in the geopolitics of the environment, a researcher, and the director of the Hugo Observatory at the University of Liège. He co-authored the sixth IPCC report and regularly teaches at several universities, including Sciences Po, HEC Paris, and the Free University of Brussels.

François Gemenne is a Belgian expert in the geopolitics of the environment, a researcher, and the director of the Hugo Observatory at the University of Liège. He co-authored the sixth IPCC report and regularly teaches at several universities, including Sciences Po, HEC Paris, and the Free University of Brussels.
He is also co-director of the Defence and Climate Observatory of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, president of the Scientific Council of the Fondation pour la Nature et l’Homme, and chairs the Board of Directors of Climate Voices.
François Gemenne was awarded the ISDT-Wernaers Prize for excellence in science communication to the general public. He has published in various journals, including Science and Global Environmental Change, hosted radio programs, and is the author of several books, including “Climate: What They Didn’t Tell You,” to be published in October 2025.
