Last November, IMS Luxembourg collaborated with the Spënchen association to orchestrate a clothing drive that surpassed all expectations! Thanks to the boundless generosity and unfailing support of our network, we managed to collect an impressive tonne of clothes, symbolising a concrete act of solidarity towards those who need it most.
This initiative brought together renowned companies such as ILA, Clearstream, the European Court of Auditors, Mediation SA, JLL Luxembourg, Orange Luxembourg, Bamolux, Le Village by CA Luxembourg, GoToFreedom, Kneip, Michael Page, Fujitsu Technology Solutions S.A., the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI), BakerMcKenzie and CACEIS Investor Services Bank S.A.
This is an opportunity to remind ourselves that the fashion industry has a significant negative impact on the planet and on human beings! In Europe, 4 million tonnes of textiles1 are thrown away every year, 80% of which end up in household waste bins and are then landfilled or incinerated. At the same time, 64% of discarded clothes2 could still be worn.
Luxembourg is no exception to this crisis: the equivalent of 95 T-shirts are thrown away every minute3, which corresponds to 12.26 kg of clothes per inhabitant per year! Of the 7,454 tonnes of textile waste produced in Luxembourg in 2018, less than 2% is reused locally.
As mentioned at our Luxembourg Sustainability Forum during our act dedicated to the impact of fashion held on 26 October, we have produced enough clothes to clothe the planet until 2100. IMS Luxembourg remains firmly committed to creating a positive impact, and this clothing drive is just one example of what we can achieve when we come together in a spirit of solidarity and caring.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause!
