ZERO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC - BIOSOURCED AND BIODEGRADABLE PLASTICS: A FALSE GOOD IDEA?

The general awareness of the harmful effect of single-use plastic has led to the emergence of new alternatives that, sometimes, are still quite unknown, not to say even sometimes misunderstood. Such is the case of the so-called bio-based, biodegradable, bio-sourced and vegetal plastics.

We therefore have the pleasure to invite you to a workshop on this specific topic in cooperation with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technologie (LIST).

The objective of the workshop will be to discuss the environmental performances of different plastic solutions for the packaging and consumption of food products, and to make the link with our Zero Single-Use Plastic manifesto and the items it comprises.

Experts from LIST will address circular economy and bioeconomy principles as well as the life cycle approach, essential to the assessment of the environmental relevance of one alternative compared to another. Through concrete examples including conventional vs bio-based plastics, they will provide some keys to support the choice towards the best possible options in terms of environmental performance, highlighting the sensitive criteria to consider along the products life cycle.

The workshop will also offer the opportunity to discuss questions you may have when identifying and assessing alternative solutions to single-use plastic.
