At the COP, countries will discuss the adoption of mandatory assessment and disclosure requirements for impacts and dependencies on biodiversity for all large businesses and financial institutions. This is Target 15 of the Global Biodiversity Framework and it’s crucial that policymakers have the confidence to make this bold commitment.
To advocate for a strong and ambitious Target 15 we've partnered with Business for Nature on the #MakeItMandatory campaign. We’re asking leading businesses to sign a statement supporting a mandatory target on assessment and disclosure on nature this December in Montreal. For the many businesses in our community, we encourage you to sign the statement and to learn more about the campaign. For our other stakeholders, please promote this work across your networks and especially among the businesses that you work with.
Mandatory assessment and disclosure will create fair competition for business, increase accountability, engage investors, create resilient supply chains, help ensure the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities and ultimately accelerate the transformation of our economies towards an equitable, nature-positive and carbon-neutral future.
To highlight the voices of leading businesses on this issue during the COP we are also providing a vehicle for those businesses who are taking clear action on biodiversity to join our delegation to Montreal this December.
All companies are invited to sign the COP15 business statement by 18 October. By doing so, you’ll join more than 100 companies and financial institutions from across the globe who are calling on Heads of State to adopt mandatory requirements for businesses to assess and disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature by 2030
