In partnership with IMS Luxembourg, the Institut Pierre Werner will host speaker Paul Tréguer ahead of the United Nations Conference on the Oceans in Nice.

He will revisit the marine world of Jules Verne with the critical eye of an oceanographer and take us on a voyage through the adventures of the heroes of a marine trilogy: the Scotsman Edward Glenarvan of Captain Grant's Children, the American Cyrus Smith of Mysterious Island and the Indian Dakkar, alias Captain Nemo of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Jules Verne envisaged the exploitation of the immense riches of the sea. Foreseeing the depletion of fossil energy resources, he advocated water electrolysis to produce hydrogen, the basis of future energy.

What new adventures would Jules Verne be proposing today?

Would we set off to discover deep-sea resources?
