From 14 to 27 October, the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg is honouring one of the flagship products of fair trade, the Fairtrade banana, available in Luxembourg since 1999.
Grown all year round, bananas are eaten at any time of the day and at any age. Its convenience, price, flavour and energy benefits make it one of the most widely consumed fruits in the world, with 140 million tonnes produced every year.
The banana industry is a source of income and food for producers, workers and families in over 150 countries. However, the banana industry is under threat from the resurgence of diseases linked to climate change and soaring production costs.
